This game teaches 27 Khmer words and phrases based on English verbs starting with the letter D. Tutorial:

Intro Mode:

The player chooses Word mode or Phrase mode and how to be tested based on 3 different ways of matching.

When ready, the player selects Study, or they can click Summary or Final Exam.

All other modes have a Restart button which will return to this Intro screen.

Summary Mode:

Displays all the words in 3 columns: English, Transliteration, Khmer.

Left-click on a word to hear it pronounced.

Click More Words to see the next set of words.

Middle-click a word to toggle its visibility.

Right-click a word to toggle the whole column's visibility.

Study Mode:

Displays a random subset of the Khmer words or phrases on a grid.

Middle-click on a tile to hear the English pronunciation.

Right-click on a tile to hear the Khmer pronunciation.

Left-click to cycle through the 3 formats: English, Transliteration, Khmer spelling

Study mode displays two tiles for each of:

  8 words (randomly selected)

  or 4 phrases (randomly selected)

The player left-clicks on either tile of a pair to learn the word.

When ready, the player clicks the Test button.

Test Mode:

The Study tiles are redrawn in random positions.

Half of the tiles show the word/phrase in the pre-chosen format (e.g. Khmer spelling).

The other half of the tiles show the 2nd pre-chosen format (e.g. the English spelling).

If the player left-clicks a pair of corresponding tiles, those tiles go blank.

Middle-click or Right-Click to hear the Khmer pronunciation.

The goal for the player is to match all pairs.

Exam Mode:

The first 27 Khmer consonants are drawn on a grid to "hide" each word.

When a letter is left-clicked on, its corresponding Khmer phrase is displayed with the key word underlined.

Clicking the Hint box displays 5 possible answers, with one word being correct.

The player types the English translation of the underlined word in a box and is told correct or incorrect.

The number of wrong guesses is kept track of for each word.

The color of the border indicates the number of wrong guesses:

  gray = 0, yellow = 1, orange = 2, red = 3 or more

When a guess is correct, the image of the letter in the grid changes to its word.

Returning to a word (was correct) and getting it wrong changes the border to green.
